FAQ
  • Who are we?

A new company doing research to develop new diagnostic tests for pet medicine.

  • What do we do?

We develop cutting edge testing to measure the results of vaccination.

  • What are we testing for?

Currently, Horizon is testing the protection from canine parvovirus vaccination.

  • How do the tests work?

We take a small blood sample from your dog, and it is sent to a veterinary lab along with a saliva sample.

  • Why do these tests need to be done?

Many pet owners are concerned about over-vaccination, yet some pets receive little or no protection from these vaccines. Which dog is it? Currently, only serum testing can determine this, and those tests are expensive, requiring shipment to commercial labs.

  • What requirements does my dog need to be eligible?

Any dog is eligible, especially puppies, year-old dogs, and high-risk breeds like Doberman Pinschers and Rottweilers.

  • Why do you want to test my dog’s blood?

Horizon wants to compare your dog’s blood parvovirus antibody level compared to when the vaccine was given.

  • What type of samples are you taking?

A small blood sample (3 - 6 ml) of blood and a mouth swab are all that is needed.

  • Will this hurt my dog?

The only discomfort is a small needle stick, no worse than similar tests for heartworm, chemistry panels, etc.
The oral swab is no worse than having a small Q-tip in the mouth for no more than a minute.

  • Will this be expensive?

No - the testing is free! And the results will be communicated to the owner via email.

  • Will I be compensated for my time?

You can be compensated on top of the free blood test by cooperating in the full study.

  • What about over vaccination?

Horizon’s testing is not vaccination, but to test for the results of vaccinations, there is no risk of overvaccination with these tests.

  • What are you looking to diagnose?

Horizon and YOU want to know if your dog is protected by the last parvovirus vaccination, or if your dog needs to be revaccinated.

  • Do you have any plans to test cats?

Yes, Horizon plans to test cats in a similar fashion in the future.
